VIDEO: Genesis of a German SUV

August 23, 2007

Here’s a Google Video of Audi’s Touareg Cayenne Q7 being built at VAG’s Slovakian plant. The big ute starts as a couple of metal crossmembers, gets the full-on robotic workover with human assistance, and comes out a complete vehicle on the other side. Along the way it picks up a powertrain, chassis, wheels and tires, an interior, electronics and all of the bits and pieces to make it whole. Although the real process takes a little longer than the five-and-a-half-minute clip, it’s an interesting peak inside the assembly line of a luxury sport ute. Perhaps not revolutionary, but kind of fun for a Thursday afternoon. Follow the jump to see the clip.
